Frequently asked questions

The questions the counter actually gets, grouped by topic. If yours is not here, ask us.

Parts and fitment

Will this fit my vehicle?

Most of what we stock is universal rather than vehicle-specific, so the question is usually about space and mounting rather than a part number. Tell us the make, model and year through the contact form and what you want to achieve, and we will tell you what fits and what it will need.

Why are your lumen figures lower than everyone else's?

Because we measure them differently. Our figures are what the lamp puts out at the lens once it has warmed up and settled. The larger numbers you see elsewhere are usually the theoretical sum of what the diodes could produce at the instant of switch-on, before any losses through the optic and lens and before the unit reaches operating temperature.

In practice a bar we list at 12 400 lm will out-perform one advertised at 30 000 lm on the same test. Compare like with like, or better, come and see them running.

Do I need a relay for an auxiliary light?

Almost always, yes. A switch on the dashboard is not built to carry the current a light bar draws, and running that current through it will eventually melt something. A relay lets the switch carry a small trigger current while the heavy feed goes straight from the battery through a fuse.

Our harnesses include the relay and fuse sized for the load.

What does IP68 actually mean?

The first digit is dust, the second is water. A 6 means fully dust-tight. An 8 means it survives continuous immersion at a depth the manufacturer specifies. For automotive use IP67 is fine for anything above the axle line; IP68 or IP69K is what you want for something mounted low, behind a wheel or anywhere it gets pressure-washed.

Ordering and delivery

Can I pay by card on the site?

No. Placing an order sends it to the counter rather than charging you. We call you to confirm the parts are on the shelf, then take payment by card in person, by bank transfer, or on collection. Nothing is charged when you send the order.

How much is delivery?

Courier delivery is $6, and free on orders over $150. Collection from the workshop is always free. Full detail is on the delivery and returns page.

How quickly will it arrive?

Stocked items are dispatched the next working day and typically arrive within one to three working days after that. Oversized items such as long light bars and tripod work lights travel as freight; we will call to confirm the surcharge before dispatching those.

The stock badge says only two left. Is that real?

Yes. The number is what is physically on the shelf, updated as orders are picked. When it says out of stock we have none, rather than a few we are holding back.

Returns and warranty

How long is the warranty?

Twenty-four months on every part. If we fitted it, the warranty covers our labour to remove and refit as well as the part itself.

Can I return something I have already wired in?

Not as an unused return, no. Once a terminal is crimped or a wire cut we cannot resell the part, so the 14-day change-of-mind window does not apply. The 24-month warranty still does: if it is faulty, we will replace it.

This is why we would rather answer a fitment question before you cut anything.

What if you send the wrong part?

We send the right one immediately and collect the wrong one at our cost. You do not wait for the return to reach us first, and you are not out of pocket.

Workshop and trade

Do you fit parts bought elsewhere?

Usually yes, at our standard labour rate. Parts bought from us are fitted at a reduced rate. We will tell you before starting if we think a part you have brought is unsuitable, and we will not fit something we consider unsafe.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Lighting and diagnostic work can usually be fitted in the same week. Full electrical system work such as a dual-battery install takes a longer slot and is typically booked one to two weeks ahead. Fleet and Partner trade accounts get priority.

How do I open a trade account?

Send us your business name, the vehicles you work on and roughly what you expect to spend, through the contact form. We set the opening tier and confirm the same day. There is no joining fee and no minimum order. Details are on the trade programme page.

Do you keep records of what was fitted?

Yes. Every electrical installation leaves with a wiring diagram of what we did, and we keep a copy. If another workshop later needs to work on the vehicle, that diagram saves them hours.
